Blind Professionals Network (BPN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to equipping blind and visually impaired (BVI) individuals with the comprehensive skills and knowledge needed to thrive professionally. We provide free career development, specialized assistive technology training, entrepreneur support, and a vital peer network to empower our members to achieve their career and financial goals.
Position Summary
The Program Director is a high-level, strategic volunteer leadership position responsible for the creation, implementation, and evaluation of all BPN initiatives. A primary focus of this role is the leadership and management of all Program Managers to ensure cohesive execution of BPN’s mission. The Director works in close partnership with the Executive Leadership team to innovate new offerings that empower professional development within the BVI community.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management:
- Team Oversight: Supervise and mentor all individual Program Managers (e.g., Mentorship, AT Training, Career Development), providing guidance on project timelines and operational hurdles.
- Performance & Support: Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins with managers to ensure they have the resources needed to succeed and are meeting program-specific KPIs.
- Workflow Coordination: Facilitate collaboration between different program silos to prevent duplication of effort and ensure a unified member experience.
Strategic Program Development:
- Executive Partnership: Collaborate directly with the Executive Team to define the long-term programming roadmap and align services with BPN’s strategic vision.
- Innovation & Ideation: Proactively research and suggest new, high-impact programs designed to bridge employment gaps for BVI professionals.
- Needs Assessment: Regularly evaluate the BVI employment landscape to identify emerging professional needs and translate those findings into actionable program proposals.
Operational Oversight & Evaluation:
- Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain rigorous quality standards across all BPN offerings, ensuring all curriculum and events are high-quality and fully accessible.
- Reporting & Analytics: Aggregate data from various programs to provide the Executive Team with comprehensive reports on impact, attendance, and member satisfaction.
- Resource Management: Optimize the use of volunteer staff and digital assets, ensuring the organization’s capacity matches its programming goals.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership in program development, educational design, or non-profit management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of managers or coordinators in a volunteer or professional setting.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Forms) for data tracking and strategic reporting.
- Ability to move from high-level conceptual ideas with the Executive team to tactical execution with Program Managers.
- Exceptional verbal and written skills, with the ability to present program proposals and impact reports to senior leadership.
- Proficiency with accessible technology and a commitment to ensuring all BPN programs are fully inclusive.
- Personal commitment to BPN’s mission and a passion for fostering professional growth within the disability community.
Time Commitment
This is a volunteer position requiring an average commitment of 7–10 hours per week, including leadership meetings and check-ins with Program Managers.
