Position Summary

The Technology Support Specialist is a versatile volunteer role within the BPN Technology Team. This individual provides essential technical infrastructure support, assists with the maintenance and development of the BPN website, and helps resolve internal technical issues for staff and members. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy individual who enjoys problem-solving and wants to ensure BPN’s digital platforms remain accessible, secure, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

Website Development & Maintenance:

  • Web Updates: Assist in updating website content, managing plugins, and ensuring the BPN website remains fully accessible to screen reader users.
  • Front-End/Back-End Support: Contribute to small-scale development projects, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.
  • Accessibility Auditing: Perform regular checks to ensure all digital assets comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

Technical Support & Administration:

  • Internal Help Desk: Provide basic technical support to BPN staff and volunteers regarding email configuration, software access, and collaboration tools.
  • Platform Management: Assist in the administration of BPN’s digital ecosystem, including Google Workplace, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and member database systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical glitches reported by members accessing BPN’s online resources.

Innovation & Strategy:

  • Tool Research: Research and recommend new software or automation tools that could improve BPN’s operational efficiency.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain internal technical "How-To" guides for the BPN team to streamline onboarding and software use.

Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with web development (HTML/CSS) and Content Management Systems.
  • Support Experience: Familiarity with troubleshooting software, email systems, and cloud-based productivity suites (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365).
  • Accessibility Mindset: A strong understanding of digital accessibility principles and how they impact users with visual impairments.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical solutions to non-technical team members clearly and patiently.
  • Reliability: Self-motivated with the ability to manage tasks independently in a remote environment.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Technology Director.

Time Commitment

Average Hours: Approximately 5–7hours per week, depending on current projects and support needs. This role is remote and offers high flexibility. Tasks can be completed asynchronously outside of specific team check-ins. Involvement in specific technical projects or training sessions is coordinated based on the volunteer’s availability.
